About Gulp Divers

Club Type
'Gulp Divers', BSAC branch number 2298, is a club set up to be primarily a diving club. We have a high ratio of active instructors and offer training and expect all members to develop their skills to a level where they are competent and safe to dive within normal sports diving activities. We don't have regular access to a pool so the club membership fee is low . We do, however, welcome anybody who wishes to learn to dive and will organise pool facilities and entry-level training as required.

Diving
The aim of the club is to promote safe and enjoyable diving for all levels of ability and interest. The club arranges dives using chartered hardboats, RIBs, and regularly visits inland sites for training, skill development, and fun. Key to all our diving activities is to organise dives that our members actually want to do.

Safety
Safety is a main priority and for this reason all divers are required to follow safe diving practices, including diving within their levels of training and experience. Members are also expected to dive within the rules and depth limits set by BSAC.

Member Participation
As with any type of club, you can only run a dive club with the participation and help of the members. An elected committee runs the club, however, what we don’t want to happen is for the club to be run by the minority for a minority. So all members are encouraged, asked and even dragged screaming if necessary, to help in the running of the club, even if it is just by suggesting dive sites.

Training
Further training is provided by members for members, free of charge, with the only requirement that ‘trainees’ pay for materials required and as a gesture of goodwill, the instructors’ air costs. Any pool time required is paid for by the members undergoing training. We have one day a month when at least one instructor is available but in reality training is provided on a much more frequent basis.

Equipment
The Club has purchased training and safety equipment, such as an oxygen kit. We do not have 'Club' scuba kit but where necessary can usually provide kit from members' own resources. All divers are encouraged to buy their own kit.

Pool
We do not rent regular pool time. If training requires pool use, then students will be expected to split the cost between them.

Boat
We do not own a boat, all boat diving is therefore off charter boats or via other clubs.

Social Events
A big part of the club is the social contact between members, when diving, at Club Nights at the pub (a must for all serious dive clubs!), and at our organised events. If you are looking for someone to dive with, then the Club Night is your chance to find a volunteer!

If your partner doesn’t dive, don’t worry; non-diving partners are always welcome.

Club Nights

The club meets at the Crown Lodge Hotel, Downham Road, Outwell, PE14 8SE on the first and third Thursday of the month from about 8.00pm. It is on the main road through Outwell in the direction of Downham Market.
